Resources

I wanted to make this page for myself and share it in case it can be of help to others. When I was first diagnosed until now I could never find a “go-to” page filled with the links and resources I needed. So, I decided to create my own! If you have any suggestions, please feel free to e-mail me at t1dactiveliving @ icloud.com (minus the spaces).

I’m continually adding to this page and it will constantly be “under construction”. Again, I encourage you to e-mail me or leave me a note here on pages you’d like to see or what you think would be helpful. Thank you!

Jessie

T1D organizations

Connected in Motion (Toronto, Ontario, Canada but with events across the country): Finally, a group for adults with type one diabetes! In their words, “To create a culture of support and engagement in diabetes self-management through peer-based experiential diabetes education, physical activity and outdoor adventure pursuits.”

JDRF (global): In their words, “JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, regulatory influence, and a working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure T1D.”

I Challenge Diabetes (Toronto, Ontario, Canada but with events across the country): Created by rower Chris Jarvis, a non-profit that hosts a variety of events that incorporate fitness.

Riding on Insulin: Founded by type 1 professional snowboarder Sean Busby, an organization that hosts camps and encourages youngsters to be active. Camps run by the group include skiing, snowboarding and bmx.

TeamWILD: Their mission? In their words, “We Inspire Life with Diabetes,  is to empower people with diabetes to take charge of their health by teaching how to be an athlete first, and a person with diabetes second.” They offer training programs including diabetes and nutrition coaches. For type 1 and type 2 diabetics.
